The Dawes Pygmy Goat Herd
The Dawes Herd started in 1993 when Pygmy Goats Holly and Ivy joined the family as pets for the Dawes children Rebecca and Stuart. Since then pygmies have always been part of the family including Charcoal who would frequently be allowed out of his pen and follow Stuart round the farm, Ben who always liked having his photo taken, Crystal who gave birth to our first “Dawes Kids” Pearl and Ruby and Sunday who likes to think he is a Pygmy!!
Welfare has always been an important part of our breeding, and living on our farm we have the luxury of space and plenty of green grass where they have their own kids play area. We do not wean them from their mother until they are twelve weeks old, and only sale our kids in pairs unless they are joining another herd.
We have chosen to disbud our own kids as up until 2012 we ran a successful award winning farm shop in Oxfordshire where children were invited to go in to the field to play with the kids, removing the horns provided added safety for our visitors.
At the start of 2013 we moved to Kinross, Scotland taking with us 14 nannies, our billy Skittles and Sunday. This was the start of an exciting chapter for the Dawes Herd. If you want to know more about our herd or visit them by arrangement only please email us or phone/text Rebecca on 07792 467730
We usually have stock for sale; please visit our dedicated page to see if we have anything available. Whilst we are located in Scotland, collections can be made from Oxfordshire by arrangement.
